What Is Diatomaceous Earth?
Diatomaceous earth - sounds bizarre, but oh is it so good for your skin! This ingredient is a natural product that is formed by fossilized remains of diatoms, aka oceanic algae. Additionally, it is composed of silica that will boost your skin’s health. We love the sound of that!
There are two types of diatomaceous earth out there, food grade and filter grade. The one that is safe for your skin is the food grade type, while the filter kind is toxic and is most often used as a bug repellent.
Diatomaceous earth has a grainy and powder-like appearance and when water is applied, it looks milky and becomes a thicker substance.
Is Diatomaceous Earth Safe?
As we mentioned above, diatomaceous earth is completely safe to use on your skin if it is the food grade kind. You definitely don’t want to mess with the other kind as it is full of toxins and can cause a lot of harm to your body.
What Are The Benefits?
What can’t this ingredient do?! Diatomaceous earth acts as an exfoliator and will help you say “see ya later” to dead skin cells.
