Rosacea: Everything You Need To Know

Posted by Purrfect Sunday on

There are many skin conditions out there that can be a nuisance to your everyday life, but there’s one in particular that we are diving into today: rosacea. This unwanted condition may feel like it is getting in the way of you being your fabulous self, but don’t worry - there are some things that you can do to help with it. Let’s get started!

What is it?

Before we get into all the nitty gritty details of rosacea, let’s start by sharing what it is. Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in your face, mainly your cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose, to appear. Additionally, it can sometimes produce small, red, puss-filled bumps. Your skin can also potentially have rough dry patches, feel hot, tender, or even sting - causing a burning sensation. There’s not just one type of rosacea, there are actually four different types that entail a few different reactions: erythematotelangiectatic. papulopustular, phymatous, and ocular.

One important thing to keep in mind is that rosacea looks different for everybody - some may have these issues appear in just one of these areas while others may have it in all of them; it all depends.

What Causes it?

There are quite a few factors that play a role in this skin condition. Certain foods (spicy), beverages (alcohol), the climate (temperature, wind), medications, and even stress can trigger rosacea. Not only that, rosacea can also be hereditary! If it runs in your family, there is a chance that you can eventually get it at some point in your life. Again, rosacea is different for everybody, not everyone will have the same “triggers”.

How Can I Prevent It?

Not all hope is lost when it comes to reducing the appearance of rosacea! There are a few steps to make sure the condition doesn’t get worse. The first, and most important step, would be to cleanse your face twice a day to gently wipe away oils and bacteria. Our Renew Cleanser is perfect to use to get rid of all the toxins from your skin! Another great product of ours that you can use to cleanse your skin is our Raw Honey Cleanser Mask. This cleanser not only fights bacteria, it can also brighten your complexion, giving your skin a gorgeous glow and a reduced appearance of redness in your skin!

Whether you have oily or dry skin, moisturizing your skin is also key! This will help hydrate your skin by locking water inside of it. Moreover, it will create a barrier so that your skin does not become irritated. Sound familiar? You may recall from our maskne blog post that we mentioned it’s best to cleanse and moisturize your skin before and after wearing your face mask because friction can ignite maskne and rosacea! Using our Naked Moisturizer is a great way to keep your skin smooth and supple all while helping your skin retain moisture. We like the sound of that! To take things a step further, try our Sensitive Skin Starter Set. This set equips you with everything you need to battle against rosacea!

As previously mentioned, the climate can trigger rosacea and as much as you may love to soak up the sun, it can make your rosacea even worse. That’s no fun! To ensure that your skin does not get harmed, applying sunscreen, wearing a hat, or staying in the shade are your best options to protect your skin. You can still get that vitamin D, but in a safe way!
