Soft and smooth skin is always in! Wondering how you can maintain or achieve that healthy kind of skin? It’s all about exfoliation! We’re here to explain what it is and why you should be incorporating it into your skincare routine. Let’s dig in!
What Is Exfoliation?
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells and breaking down bacteria by gently cleansing your skin with an exfoliant product. These types of products can come in a variety of forms and different “levels” based on your skin type.
Why Is It Important?
Incorporating exfoliation into your skincare routine is important for a multitude of reasons. To start, your skin naturally sheds about every 30 days to make way for new skin cells on the top layer of your skin. When you exfoliate, it speeds up the process! If your skin does not happen to shed for some reason, it can become dull, dry, or could even develop flaky patches! Not fun, right?
For our acne-prone skin friends, exfoliating will allow your pores to become unclogged and can reduce the future formation of blackheads and whiteheads. Most importantly, exfoliating can make your skin have a healthier, even, and glowy appearance - we’re all for that!
What Should I Use To Exfoliate?
If you are exfoliating for the first time, you’ll want to start off by doing it once a week and make sure you are using a lighter and not-so harsh exfoliator. Doing so will allow you to see what works for your skin and then potentially build-up from there. After you exfoliate, be sure to apply a light moisturizer to hydrate your skin. We recommend using our Naked Moisturizer to top things off.
How Often Should I Exfoliate?
We totally understand that you may to exfoliate to get quicker results, but less is more! In order to not strip away your skin’s natural oils, you should only exfoliate your skin at least twice a week. Over-exfoliation can also lead to dry skin and microtears. Yikes!
